Drywall Finishing has 5 levels to it. Lancaster Drywall Contractors providers all 5 levels. The first level means zero finishing has been applied. At this stage, it is just the drywall that is fastened to the wall or ceiling. Level 1 means that drywall joint tape has been applied in joint compound but that is it. It still looks very unfinished. Level 2 is when there is a thin coat of joint compound over the tape which covers the drywall screw holes. Sometimes we finish here if our customers prefer to hang tiles instead of drywall. At level 3, there is another layer of joint compound applied over the tape and screws. Depending on what our customers like, sometimes we stop here too if the project calls for a heavy textures such as a knockdown texture. This is because the texturing would add a finish rougher than level 3. Level 4 is the classic drywall finish with another layer of joint compound applied over the tape and screws then sanding the dried compound. Level 4 is common if your plan is to cover the wall with paint or wallpaper. Level 5 is the highest level of drywall finishing which involves applying a skim coat.

Skim coats can be applied three ways. The first way it to use a roller. We use a thick-nap roller to apply thinned joint compound then scrape off any excess compound. Another way to apply skim coat is with a taping knife. In this process, we apply six or eight dabs of mud which is smoothed out with the taping knife then scrape off the excess mud. Lastly, is a spray finish. We have the appropriate tools to spray on drywall compound.

We have the team and tools necessary to complete all the above. Each project requires different finishings. For example, your garage or workshop may not need a level 5 finish. Maybe a level 1 will do. On the other hand, perhaps you want to remodel your ceiling by removing the popcorn-style finish and replacing it with a higher level finish. Either way, Lancaster Drywall Contractors are here to service your needs at the highest quality standards. Call us today for a free quote at 717-470-8938.
